Earlier this summer I met this artist on my way to Fort Amherst. I spoke with him and he told me he moved to St. John’s in 1986 from France. I don’t recall his name but as you can see he was painting the landscape around the Outer Battery and Signal Hill. The photo of the Outer Battery was taken the same time as the photograph of the French artist. I have included this photo to give you a better idea of what he was painting.

Eric: I recognize the artist from an edition of CBCs Land and Sea. The program was on a tapastry being embroidered in a small outport. The idea for the piece came from this man's wife. He designed the piece and she and some community women did the embroidery. I wish I had paid more attention and remembered their names. Sandy Walters
I found out his name is John Claude Roy.
