Icebergs

Today was the second sunny day of the long weekend. It must be a record for us. To take advantage of the good weather we drove up the Southern Shore to Ferryland. Along the way there were icebergs everywhere. The first photo was taken near Mobile. The second photo was taken in Bauline East.

If you look carefully at the bottom photo there are five icebergs visible but I could count six at the time. One of the icebergs is covered in fog.

Lobster Feast

May 24th long weekend is a time many Newfoundlanders feast on Lobster. I did the same on Saturday. We were actually able to eat outside on our deck as the temperature rose to 20 degrees celsius for the first time this year. Yippee! However, it’s cold and windy again today.

Middle Cove Ice Cubes

I paid a visit to Middle Cove a few days ago. It was just a terrible drab day weather wise but not too bad for photography. The wind was high and the ocean was in a rage and it was quite the scene to behold as there were bits of iceberg all over the beach. I think these photos speak for themselves. Note the pattern of the waves as they wash over the beach in photos 2 and 3.

Newfoundlanders like their ice cubes big:).

The people in the last photo give you a sense for just how big the pieces of ice are in size.

Beginning and End

I took the first photo looking towards Cape Spear this morning on my way to work . This evening I drove to Cape Spear and took a photo from the opposite direction and looking towards Signal Hill. I think the the two icebergs in each photo are the same.

Quite a contrast in photos though. One taken at the beginning of the day looking in one direction and the other at the end of the day looking in the opposite direction.

Iceberg

Icebergs are off our coast again this year. I have not had a chance to photograph them so I'm sending one from about this time last year.
