Pussy Cat

For the past few weeks birds have been hanging out in this tree as seen through my kitchen window. My dog goes crazy when she sees them. However, a few mornings ago when I looked out my kitchen window this cat was staring back at me. You guessed it, he/she was luking for birds.

With all of the snow and cold weather here in Newfoundland I started searching for some of my pictues taken down south where the weather is warmer. This is a picture from Belize that I took while on a trip there in 2005.

Yellow Rose

Something other than pictures with snow. This reminds me of spring, which I long for!

Snow, Snow & more Snow!

After a record breaking snowfall we have more than enough of the white stuff. Here are some pictures from around my neighbourhood to show the amount of snow we have to contend with.

Team Devereaux

Yesterday I had the opportunity to celebrate the tremendous achivement of Team Devereaux at a socilal event planned in their honour. They won the Canadian Junior Women's Curling Champsionshipjust a couple of weeks ago and will now represent Canada at the world event in Minnesota beginning early next month. The team set history as the first Newfoundland & Labrador junior women's team to ever win the national title. We wish them the best at the world event.

Heritage Sites

Tomorrow, February 19th is Heritage Day so I thought I would post pictures that are of significant heritage value.

The site in the first picture has not yet been designated as an historic place but it does have significant historic value. Chain and Pancake Rocks (as they are known) are valuable for their association with military activity in St. John’s harbour. As early as 1762, a large chain and log boom was stretched across the Narrows from Chain Rock to Pancake Rock. Every evening the log boom was raised so as to obstruct enemy vessels attempting to enter port through the Narrows. Furthermore, twice in the 20th Century, Chain and Pancake Rocks were used to keep enemy ships from entering the harbour or attacking ships at anchor. During World War I, a log boom was employed to keep enemy ships out of the harbour and during World War II anti-submarine nets were secured underwater from Chain Rock to Pancake Rock to keep the port safe from groups of U-boats patrolling the North Atlantic during this period. Chain and Pancake Rocks are located just to the right of the Outer Battery shown in the picture below.

The second picture of the Outer Battery is also of significant heritage value. There are a number of sites in the Outer Battery designated as fisheries heritage sites.

Morning Winter Scene

This is a scene near my home. I was passing by in my car on the way to work this morning when this scene jumped out at me. I always carry a camera so I pulled my Canon point and shoot and shot this just as the sun was breaking through the snowy skies. I framed in Photoshop and applied a little bit of texture to give it the feel of a painting.

I had the day off from work so do some photo shooting. I did the first image in duotone. The bottom photo shows more of the rower statute as originally shot.
