Here is another photo from my Saturday hike along the East Coast Trails from Flatrock to Torbay.

My new Canon G12 has a fisheye capability which I love. I was experimenting with it when I happened upon this scene. I had to take this shot in an instant because the hiker was walking very quickly towards me and I figured with the camera on fisheye I would be able to get this tunnel effect. I was right!. The fisheye bent the trees in a circle type effect and it just encases the hiker. I was excited with the outcome but I think it would have been better if there were no people in the background. I  converted to B&W as well. I think the light can be seen better with the black and white but I like them both. Hope you do too!

East Coast Trails -Hiking Flatrock to Torbay

On Saturday we participated in the 11th annual Telly Hike which is a fund raiser for the East Coast Trails. 

The hike we took was about 9km from Flatrock to Torbay. The day started out overcast but the sun came out later in the morning and it was just fantastic for hiking. The scenery was spectacular!

Taken today at Berry Head. It's a 6 hour hike (return) from Port Kirwin.

Mudder Wet Path, Aquaforte

Recently I went for a hike along Mudder Wet Path on the East Coast Trail system. To take this hike you have to drive to Aquaforte which is near Ferryland on the Southern Shore. It’s about an hours drive from St. John’s. I have hiked this trail a couple of times.

On this hike I was headed towards the waterfall (photo 3) and came upon this skull and bones (photos 1 & 2). I’m assuming it was once a cow but I’m not sure. Kind of interesting I thought so I’m sharing with you.

There is a nice waterfall on this trail although on the day I was there the water was not flowing as much as I was hoping for. However, I tried to make the best of the situation with this photo.

The last photo is of an old fishing shed along the beach in Aquaforte. I love the site of these old buildings because of the texture, colour and the history behind them. They are slowly but surely disappearing as time goes by so I photograph them whenever I see one.

Hiking Scenes

We hiked the East Coast Trails on Saturday from Brigus South to Flamber Head. These are a few of the photos that I took.

Scenics

On Saturday we went for our first hike along the East Coast Trails. We took the trail beginning in Quidi Vidi and walked towards Logy Bay. We only hiked part of the trail and then turned back and drove to Cape Spear to get a closer look at icebergs.
I took the first photo looking towards Cape Spear from the East Coast Trail in Quidi Vidi using a telephoto lens. The boat and the seagull happened to be in the right place at the right time! The second photo of the same iceberg was taken from Cape Spear and you can see the pack ice in the background.
The third photo was taken from the top of a hill along the East Coast Trail and, as you can see, you can get a fantastic view looking west towards St. John’s. In this third photo, to the right you can see Quidi Vidi Lake and in the immediate foreground is the village of Quid Vidi. The ocean, to the left, is looking towards Blackhead and Cape Spear.
For good measure I am throwing in a photo of the Cape Spear Lighthouse. If you look closely in this photo you can see someone taking a photo of the lighthouse and in the distant foreground there are three icebergs, although only two are visible (barely) in this photograph.
Many people from Newfoundland head south this time of year to soak up the sun after a long winter. However, the beauty of our Province is really something to envy (especially on a sunny day) and for those of us who didn’t travel to the sunny south, it was great to get out and soak up our own sunshine and fresh air on this Easter weekend.
