Churchill Falls Generating Station
While in Labrador we also visited Churchill Falls and treated to a tour of the Churchill Falls Generating Station. This is a massive underground structure and has 11 power generating units and produces up to 5,500 mega watts of power. Most of the power is sold to Quebec. Under the now infamous power contract, Quebec has reaped $19 billion in profit since the 1960’s and NL only $1 billion with most of that $1 billion reinvested into keeping the operation maintained. This project is an engineering marvel but also represents a colossal giveaway of wealth to Quebec and for most Newfoundlanders it is a very sore point of discussion. Quebec refuses to renegotiate the contract and pay reasonable prices and they have the option in 2021 to extend the agreement for another 20 years until 2041.Get this, upon renewal the price per mega watt drops yet again in 2021. I worked for 7 years for CFLCO and visited the town and the plant many times. The Powerhouse is spotless and you can eat off the floor it's so clean. It really is one of the wonders of the world.

Iron Ore Trucks
These are photos I took during a tour of the Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) ore pits in Labrador. These massive trucks move iron ore from the pits for processing. IOC ships iron ore around the world including China where there is a big demand. IOC is expanding operations and investing another 1/2 billon into the expansion program.
