Middle Cove

On Saturday we visited Middle Cove Beach only to discover there were schools of capelin swimming near the beach. Kids and adults alike were in the water catching them in their hands. I have never known capelin to come ashore this late in the year.

Looks like everyone was having tons of fun. :) :) Looks like those tiny fish would make great bait!!! :) :) Wonder if that is what they are used for. We have fishys sorta like that they swim in schools and you can catch them with a pole and line. It is illegal to catch them in a net. They are called oama”, or juvenile goatfish, and the other small fish that you can catch at the shoreline is called halalu. They both come to the shoreline in summer. :) :)
