Laura Breen

I read in our local newspaper today about Laura Breen being voted best female soccer player in Newfoundland and Labrador for the past decade. I was very impressed with her many other awards. I remembered photographing her about a couple of years ago at a CBC sponsored fundraiser for amateur soccer.

All too often we forget about the feats of our amateur athletes but this young lady is someone to be proud of. You can read more about her accomplishments by copying and pasting this link to your internet browser http://www.thetelegram.com/index.cfm?sid=290342&sc=83.

Food Fishery

The cod food fishery opened again today. These photos were taken off Witless bay back when the fishery was open in late July. As you can tell from these two photos, there was a big ocean swell on when I took these shots. From my vantage point in a zodiac they looked like they were being swallowed by the sea t times.

French Painter

Earlier this summer I met this artist on my way to Fort Amherst. I spoke with him and he told me he moved to St. John’s in 1986 from France. I don’t recall his name but as you can see he was painting the landscape around the Outer Battery and Signal Hill. The photo of the Outer Battery was taken the same time as the photograph of the French artist. I have included this photo to give you a better idea of what he was painting.
