Root Cellar Elliston, NL
This past weekend we visited Elliston, the root cellar capital of the world. Here is a photo of one of a number of root cellars that I photographed. To find out more about root cellars in Elliston check out this website: http://www.rootcellars.com/.
In the second photo is an infrared version. I haven’t explored infrared photography much but plan to study this a bit more over time.

Dragon Boat
On Sunday a significant event occurred in Paradise, a fledging community just outside St. John’s. The official ribbon cutting ceremony to launch the Dragon Boat occurred. Below is an excerpt from Monday’s provincial paper The Telegram. I hope you enjoy the collage of pictures I took followed by some larger images from the event.
The Telegram
More than 50 breast cancer survivors and about 300 supporters cheered on the shores of Octagon Pond in Paradise as the Avalon Dragons awakened.
In a ceremony to “awaken the dragon” the cancer survivors launched the dragon boat which they built themselves over the last year.
There is a strong link between dragon boating and breast cancer — the exercise helps combat lymphedema, a common side effect of breast cancer treatments.

Cape Spear & Minnie
Saturday was an absolute fantastic day here in St. John’s. It was the type of day that made all the other bad days seem worth it. I took advantage of the fine weather and went to Cape Spear to try out a new telephoto f2.8 lens that I had just bought.
As luck would have it I meet a young lady from China who was happy to be photographed in return for pictures. You never know your luck when you go around with a camera sporting big lenses :).
I wanted to test my new lens so it worked out for both of us. To view more photos of the young Chinese lady who comes from Guangzhou click on this link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ericbar/

Local Music Bands
I have pictures of three different local music bands for you today. I tried three different techniques for each photo.
The first photo is of the band “FUSE”. I did a photo shoot for them last year at the east end of Water Street. The band used to play at the Sundance but they are now no longer singing together.
The second image is a triptych of the band Shanneyganock. I took this picture at King George V Park on Sunday.
The last photo (actually a collage of photos) was also taken at King George V Park. The band’s name is Aislin House and they are very good.
