Maple Tree

Picture taken this morning of a maple tree on the front lawn of my home.

House on Winter Place, St. John's

I took this because of how the red leaves of the tree and the leaves in the driveway blend with the colour of the house. The tree also serves to frame the house.

Outer Battery

This photo was taken of the Outer Battery in St. John's. As the sun sets it is bathed in golden sunshine.

Basilica Silhouette

A silhouette of the Roman Catholic Bascilica which has been a long time landmark that towers over the city of St. John's. This was taken from the south side of St. John's using a telephoto lens as the sun was setting.

Single Maple Leaf

A single maple leaf clings to a spruce tree in my backyard. We have had lots of rain this past few days and the leaves are falling off my trees in abundance.

Leaves in Fall

As the leaves begin to change colour it's a great time to get out and walk park or hiking trails and enjoy the beautiful colours at this time of year.

Spout

I have had requests to post pictures of the Spout which is a fresh water geyser found along the East Coast Trail from Shoal Bay to Bay Bulls. Here are three which should give you a feel for the locationand the size.

Simplicity

I wanted a picture expressing simplicity. I used available natural light.

Diamond Cove, NL

This photo of a small fishing stage and boat was taken in the tiny fishing community of Diamond Cove, which is located on the south west coast of Newfoundland & Labrador. The sky looked threatening when I shot this but it never did rain. The overcast sky served to diffuse the light as I shot this mid day. Notice the seagull sitting on the top of the stage. He was enjoying the view as well!

Purple Cosmos

I believe this is a purple cosmos flower according to my internet research. But, I stand to be corrected.

Coastline II

This is a view from top of a hill as you leave the Spout area hiking towards Shoal Bay. There are numerous scenes like this but to appreciate them you need to experience in real time while listening to the roar of the ocean.

Leaves

I'm posting today as my travel plans got changed due to flight cancellations caused by tropical storm Isaac.These leaves were growing off shoots/branches running alongside and over an old rotting tree trunk. Taken during a hike Sunday along the East Coast Trail to the Spout.

Hiking

Yesterday we hiked the East Coast Trail from Goulds to Shoal Bay and on to the Spout. The round trip was 22 km and took about 8 hours to complete. At the Spout there is a geyser that blows water in the air. Yesterday it was blowing water about 40 to 50 feet every 10 seconds.
My next posting will be Thurday, October 5th.
