Centennial Flame, Ottawa

I just returned from a business trip to Ottawa. When I arrived on Tuesday it was a beautiful evening so I walked around the parliament buildings and took some pictures using my Canon point and shoot.

This is a photo of the Centennial Flame with the East Block in the background.

It was one second past midnight on January 1, 1967 when Lester B. Pearson launched Canada's 100th anniversary celebrations by lighting the Centennial Flame for the first time. Surrounded by the shields of the Canadian provinces and territories, and joined by the water of the fountain, the Centennial Flame symbolizes Canada's unity from sea to sea.
The East Block was the nerve centre of Canada's government for the country's first hundred years!
